Pitt Pharmacy Students Administer COVID-19 Vaccines

In a first for the state of Pennsylvania, students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy administered the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to the UPMC employees who will operate UPMC Presbyterian’s vaccine clinic in the weeks to come.

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Health granted special permission for supervised pharmacy interns to immunize people under its COVID-19 emergency vaccination distribution plan.

COVID-19 vaccinations are voluntary for UPMC employees, and the health system expects to provide doses for all employees who choose to receive them by the end of January.
