Dr. Suresh Mulukutla, chief of cardiology at UPMC Passavant, emphasized the hospital’s growth and enhancements since he joined the team in 2003.
New HVI entrance at UPMC Passavant
“This entrance represents UPMC Passavant’s commitment to the patient experience,” said Mulukutla. He thanked UPMC Passavant and Passavant Hospital Foundation leadership, adding that the hospital staff makes these patient improvements possible.
The new entrance is more visible and accessible to patients. Inside, visitors can find a new electronic display showcasing the history of UPMC Passavant as well as Passavant Hospital Foundation donor walls.
This project represents phase one of the First Impressions project, which is designed to update patient and visitor areas and lobbies at UPMC Passavant.
“I cannot wait until we have the whole hallway open,” said Susan Hoolahan, president, UPMC Passavant. “There will also be a retail pharmacy for all of our patients and staff to use.” The project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

Within the last few years, UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute expansions have allowed patients to get most of their treatment in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. For example, cardiac patients can now receive a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), which is a minimally invasive procedure that treats aortic stenosis with a faster recovery time than open heart surgery. They can also receive the WATCHMAN procedure, where an implant is used as an alternative to long-term blood thinner therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation.
